Another sunny start.

For 6/17/09: Drier conditions are still setting up in the west but the combination of the jet stream right over the southwest and more weak pacific waves are keeping the pattern fairly active. A wave from the southwest lifting north through southern Utah will offer a glancing blow today with more isolated thundershowers expected to build on the early cloud cover and hold through the early evening.

Overnight lows dropped to right above the freezing mark again overnight with Crested Butte reporting 33 degrees this morning while Gunnison held at 37 degrees. We will see highs again today in the 60’s for all elevations with the south hedging towards the 70’s but heavier cloud cover early might stop the warming short of that mark. Look for another cold clear night with more highs in the 30’s.

The drier trend is still taking shape in the west but we just can’t seem to buy some of the pure high pressure that usually offers the clear blue skies through June. More weak waves of pacific moisture will keep the western flow a little dirty with enough fuel for scattered and isolated thundershowers. These become more broken into the weekend but stay prepared as you head out and plan accordingly.
