More sun but lurking storms.

For 6/15/09: We are starting out the week with some residual moisture from the north offering enough fuel for thundershowers early along the higher terrain and convective showers for the rest of the valley building with the heat of the day. These will be hit or miss for everywhere other than the divide so just be prepared as you head out.

Overnight lows effected the clearer skies with Crested Butte reporting 33 degrees while Gunnison held a bit warmer at 36 degrees. Highs today will hit the 60’s for most elevations with the 70’s possible for the lower elevation at the south end of the valley.

We are continuing to see this dirty western flow carrying enough moisture and remnants of stronger systems to fuel scattered thundershowers but drier air is on the way. We will see fewer storms building every day this week with prolonged sunshine. The brunt of the variables will hold to the other side of the divide which doesn’t preclude some moisture slipping over into our area but the frequency will be greatly diminished. Regardless, continue to pack layers and be prepared for all conditions as these fast moving system hold in the west.
