Another beautiful morning.

For 6/13/09: Drier air has settled into our area but it is a precarious balancing act as we sit in a dry slot between moisture from the south and the jet stream carrying pacific moisture. We will see the fuel for afternoon thundershowers even if this southern moisture skirts the area so be prepared for the same heavy cloud build up on the higher peaks and scattered thundershowers through the afternoon.

Overnight lows were warmer than expected with the continued clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 36 degrees and Gunnison reporting 40 degrees. We will see highs today climbing to the 60’s valley wide with another overnight low like we saw last night.

Precipitable water levels are drying out with this influx of dry conditions from the south but waves of pacific moisture and the subtropical plume are still moving through the west. We will see thunder cells building with the heat of the day at a minimum with the potential for a juicier wave or two if the right pieces fall into place. Either scenario will result in different degrees of storms through the afternoon while the mornings remain mostly sunny so get an early start on big adventures and stay prepared for all conditions.
