Finally some sunshine.
For 6/12/09: Finally I have some changes to report as the western weather pattern shows some significant movement and we see a drier pattern developing. Changes won’t be immediate but the blue skies early are a pretty good indicator that the super wet conditions of Wednesday and Thursday are past us. Sunny skies will fuel convective activity and gusting winds but we will see some sunshine through today and the weekend.
Clear skies overnight allowed a cold low this morning with Crested Butte reporting 30 degrees while Gunnison stayed a couple degrees warmer but still bottomed out at 34 degrees. Daytime highs will flirt with the 60’s valley wide with increasing cloud cover through the heat of the day putting a cap on the warmer temperatures. Tonight will offer more cold clear conditions with this continued northern influence and high moisture content.
This dominant flow of moisture will push to the north with the jet too far out to tap the plume of subtropical moisture that has added to these consistent rains. Expect convective storms to continue as temperatures warm towards normal June conditions and our location on the southern side of the moist northern flow will feed another round of gradient winds. Even with the variables this is the most optimistic report we have had in a couple weeks. Get out and enjoy the sun but be aware of fast changes and pack layers.
