Mostly cloudy again early.

For 6/9/09: We are continuing to see the one two punch of the southern moisture plume interacting with the stalled northern trough. This will mean fuel and dynamics for more thundershowers through today and even snow over the highest terrain while the cold from the north holds in place.

Overnight lows were mild with the thick cloud cover holding with Crested Butte reporting 42 degrees while Gunnison was a few degrees warmer at 46 degrees. We will rebound to the 50’s and low 60’s briefly but temperatures will likely settle lower with thundershowers expected mostly at the higher elevations but also finding the lower valleys. Look for slightly colder overnight lows tonight with rain showers and a light coating of snow on the peaks.

With very little movement out of this trough to the north it will mean more of the same for Wednesday. The jet stream is drawing moisture up from the south with both the plume of subtropical moisture and moisture from California feeding the flow. Expect numerous thunder cells building with the heat of the day with this trend drying into the end of the week. So far the weekend is still looking drier but the components affecting our weather right now are hard to predict. Be sure to pack layers if you are headed out and stay prepared.
