A cold morning with more unsettled conditions on the way.

For 6/8/09: We are seeing some changes in the flow of the western weather pattern and today will offer drier conditions than we saw through the weekend but more scattered thundershowers are likely. The cold front to the north and the moisture from the south are coming together and forming an unsettled ridge of potentially stormy conditions. As temperatures warm convective storms over the higher terrain are likely.

We saw another very cold overnight low from this colder northern air with Crested Butte reporting 29 degrees this morning. We will rebound under sunny skies but it will feel chilly with highs only expected to flirt with the low 60’s valley wide and likely hold lower if the cloud cover settles in too early. Look for another cold night with this trend holding into the week while the cold front moves slowly through to the north.

Unfortunately there is not  a whole lot of good news in the forecast for this week with southern moisture lifting into the area and meeting this colder northern front. The result will be unsettled conditions that will look a lot like this weekend with everything from spotty sunshine to snow showers possible. We are in need of a big weather event to clear the western pattern and return us to a normal flow. Until that happens, stay prepared for all conditions as you head out and take advantage of windows of sunshine.
