Another beautiful sunny start.

For 6/5/09: High winds have finally started to move the traffic jam that built behind the blocking ridge that dominated the western weather pattern through the last week. The good news is that it will finally clear out this lingering moisture that has been fueling the consistent afternoon thundershowers. The bad news is that it will draw moisture up from the southwest and usher a pacific wave through in the process offering active conditions through this afternoon that will probably continue overnight.

Overnight lows were as moderate as we have seen in a while with Crested Butte reporting 38 degrees this morning while Gunnison was at 40 degrees. We will rebound quickly to another warm high in the 60’s for the north end of the valley while Gunnison flirts with the 70’s. Cloud cover overnight will offer another night a lot like last night with lows hanging on the 40 degree mark.

The warmer temperatures combined with these approaching fronts will make for more active conditions this afternoon with high winds, scattered thunder cells and hail all a possibility before these waves clear. Tomorrow will offer the best conditions of the weekend with more consistent thundershowers and cooler temperatures building into Sunday.
