Moisture remains trapped.
For 6/3/09: We saw a little wind yesterday to start mixing this moisture clear of the area but not enough to really start the flow. Precipitable water levels are continuing to drop and this will limit the fuel for these storms but don’t look for too big a change until later Thursday. So for today it looks like we will see more of the same but with about 10% less fuel for the thundershowers.
Overnight lows dropped even with the cloud cover but stayed above the freezing mark with Crest Butte reporting 35 degrees this morning and Gunnison 37 degrees. We will rebound with the gaps of sunshine early but more areas of heavy cloud cover will mean cooler conditions topping out in the 50’s or even low 60’s.
The missing component in the current pattern has been enough wind to mix this trapped moisture clear of the area and it looks like that will be building through today and tomorrow. Look for these winds to shuffle the pattern enough in the west in order to make some changes as drier conditions build to the west. Until this pattern shifts the same advice holds. Pack plenty of layers as you head out and plan you projects or adventures with escapability in mind.
