Light clouds and sun early.

For 5/30/09: We are starting to see increased moisture approaching from the south as indicated by the light clouds early. Look for this to feed more convective showers through this afternoon with the same mix of small hail and gusting winds in very isolated thundershowers. Moisture will increase though the weekend with storms building earlier in the day as the moisture level increases.

Overnight lows dropped to 31 degrees again in Crested Butte with the clear skies while Gunnison remained a few degrees warmer at 36 degrees. Daytime highs will hover in the 60’s again valley wide but will be moderated by the cloud cover building earlier in the afternoon. Look for increasing cloud cover overnight to insulate against below freezing overnight lows but probably not until Sunday night.

Moisture is continuing to build from the south with a steady increase in the precipitable water levels forecast into the beginning of the week. More than anything, this will mean abundant fuel for convective activity through the afternoons so get an early start on all adventures and projects and pack some layers.
