Clear blue skies.
For 5/28/09: High pressure has set up in the west again but moisture will still be tracking into the southwest out of Baja. This won’t be enough to form rain on it’s own but it will combine with the increasing temperatures to fuel convection based afternoon thundershowers. Yesterday temperatures stayed cool enough that we never really saw the formation of these storms beyond the gusting winds and spotty high cloud cover.
Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies lower than expected to the 29 degrees in Crested Butte and 35 degrees in Gunnison. Checking last year’s numbers, we saw freezing temperatures off and on into June. Keep this in mind as you start planting. Much clearer and sunnier conditions today will open the door for warmer temperatures but the mid 60’s is as high as we should see. With more clear skies overnight we can expect another cold one hovering right around the freezing mark.
Today will look a lot like yesterday but with a clearer start. Expect cloud cover forming over the higher terrain with the heat of the day with gusting winds. Thundershower may form but will be relegated to the higher terrain. If all the right pieces fall into place we could see slow moving spotty showers but these will be hit or miss and not really worth planning around.
