Low clouds continue to linger.
For 5/27/09: A trough to our north is acting like a blocking ridge and holding this moisture in place. Everyday we dry out just a bit but without any wind or significant movement in the pattern, everything is holding pretty steady. We should see a little more sunshine through today that could stir the pot with some convective activity and start things moving.
Overnight lows dropped to the lowest we have seen in a while with Crested Butte reporting 30 degrees while Gunnison stayed above the freezing mark at 38 degrees. Temperatures will rebound slowly with the low cloud cover hanging on this morning but some sun through the middle of the day should bring us up through the 50’s and maybe hit the low 60’s at the south end of the valley.
With the divide acting as a backstop to this lingering moisture it will also be the hot spot for convective activity once the sun comes out. Expect short but strong pulses offering lightning and wetting rains that you will want to be prepared for especially if you are headed to the higher terrain.
