Low clouds again early as remnants hold on.
For 5/26/09: This moisture is just not in any hurry to clear the area and with no real wind so far, it’s settling up against the divide. We can expect a little more sun for today than yesterday but the result will likely be the same with heavy cloud cover filling in around noon offering potentially strong rain showers into the afternoon.
Overnight lows stayed cold again last night with Crested Butte reporting 35 degrees while Gunnison dropped to 39 degrees this morning. We will see highs climbing a little higher into the 50’s and flirting with the 60’s if we see some concentrated sun but a real warm up will hold off until later in the week.
Precipitable moisture levels are dropping all around us so the pattern is drying out but we just are not seeing enough movement to have it clear the area. Hard to imagine after two weeks of wind that we would be hoping it would come back but that’s what it’s going to take to clear skies. Look for the thickness of these remnants to dwindle as the week progresses with sunnier conditions expected. We will continue to see flash flood conditions with the saturated ground and potential for slow moving heavy rain storms so be aware at water crossings and of natural low terrain features.
