Another rainy start to the day.

For 5/24/09: This flow of southern moisture is continuing to lift into the area and regional radar shows enough still to our south to keep the stormy potential in effect through today. The trajectory that was drawing the moisture up to our west has shifted a little to the east and it looks like we will see a more concentrated feed through the early part of the day.

The heavy cloud cover and sporadic rains overnight kept the low pretty mild with Crested Butte reporting 42 degrees while Gunnison stayed warmer at 44 degrees. With more of this moisture lifting into the area through the morning the temperatures will rebound slowly. Look for the 50’s again valley wide but we could also see the low 60’s late in the afternoon if skies start to clear.

We are starting to see the end of this southern moisture but the atmosphere is fully saturated and clearing skies will lead to warmer conditions and subsequent thundershowers for tomorrow. These convective systems will have a lot more energy than what we have been seeing so expect them to blow in quickly offering squally showers and plan activities accordingly for Memorial Day accordingly.
