Heavy cloud cover early with rain in the forecast.
For 5/21/09: Two different low pressure systems are coming together in the south and the associated moisture will be lifting into our area through this morning with rain and thunder storms likely into Friday. The convective potential of the storms will be stifled by the cooler conditions that will develop in the wake of the consistent rains.
Overnight lows dropped before the cloud cover set in with Crested Butte reporting 38 degrees while Gunnison stayed warmer at 41 degrees. We will rebound slowly with the heavy cloud cover and rains expected to build through the day but will still manage a high in the 50’s or low 60’s. Tonight’s lows will stay much milder with most elevations expected to hold to the 40’s but there is also the possibility of some snow up high if part of a northern cold front dips far enough to the south.
The southern flow that will bring us the wet conditions through the next 48 hours is just getting set up so expect rain and thunder storms building by noon and continuing into this afternoon. This will be the trend into tomorrow with remnants clearing the area though the weekend. Get out early or plan on some inside projects for the afternoon.
