A sunny start but more thundershowers on the way.
For 5/20/09: We are seeing a ridge develop along the divide catching moisture lifting into the area from the south while a stalled cold front holds in northern Colorado. Continued warm temperatures and the abundance of moisture now in the atmosphere will fuel another round of these same convective thundershowers building early and intensifying through the heat of the day.
Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies hitting 33 degrees in Crested butte this morning while Gunnison held to 35 degrees. We will rebound quickly with another warm day expected but the cloud cover and thundershowers will build quickly and stifle the climb and keep highs in the 60’s. By tomorrow increased moisture will offer heavier rains and even cooler temperatures with highs dropping to the 50’s and 60’s for the end of the week. Overnight lows will be warmer with the more consistent cloud cover but snow over the higher terrain will be possible but short lived.
We are headed for an aggressive change in the pattern for the later part of the week and you will want to plan accordingly. Locally heavy rains and even snow will be possible before the pattern shifts into the weekend so take advantage of any window through today but be prepared for thundershowers.
