Sunny early but changes brewing.
For 5/19/09: Increased moisture lifting into our area from the south is offering just light cloud cover early but as the near record high temperatures build it is fueling convective activity. Yesterday the better part of the big cloud formations were to the south but as the moisture spreads further north look for more organized systems over the divide and higher terrain.
Overnight lows were warmer than yesterday with Crested Butte reporting 36 degrees while Gunnison held to 38 degrees. Highs today will once again find the 70’s valley wide with winds and cloud cover building into the heat of the day making it feel a little cooler. Today will be the last day of these super warm conditions with temperatures tapering off into the later part of the week.
The flow of the western weather pattern will switch more decidedly to the south and tap subtropical moisture in Arizona drawing it north through the end of the week. Thursday and Friday will present significantly cooler days with rain and thundershowers dominating. Take advantage of the remaining sunny days and get outside.
