The warmest temperatures we have seen all spring.
For 5/18/09: The high pressure pocket that has been holding over the area will start to breakdown today as we see subtropical moisture starting to lift into the west. The precursor will be just enough moisture to activate off the continued unseasonably warm temperatures producing widely scattered cloud cover and isolated thunder showers over the higher terrain but look for the potential for some bonafied rain by the end of the week.
Overnight lows continued to hug the freezing mark with more clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 32 degrees this morning while Gunnison stayed a degree warmer at 33 degrees. Today will offer the warmest highs that we have seen all spring with temperatures expected to hit the high 60’s or low 70’s valley wide. Don’t be surprised to see areas of high cloud cover and more gusting winds building with the heat of the day but overnight lows should continue to hover right around 32 degrees.
As usual the bigger variables will hold on the higher terrain but today should be a great day for a big adventure but be sure to pack some layers just in case. The forecast starts to get a little trickier into the end of the week so take advantage of these sunny days.
