Windy.

For 5/13/09: Moisture from the north has continue to linger with areas of cloud cover holding over the higher terrain through yesterday afternoon. The most aggressive weather feature remains the winds with the combination of the classic gradient winds building from the snow melt and the cold front holding to the north making for some high gusts through the afternoons.

Temperatures have remained very mild especially overnight with Crested Butte reporting 40 degrees for a low this morning while Gunnison bottomed out at 41. Skies will remain clearer longer today but a cold front moving through the north will reduce our expected highs by 5-10 degrees bringing us back to the low 60’s or high 50’s. We will warm up again through Thursday but see another cold front for Friday.

These cold fronts holding to the north will kick up the winds but also create a dynamic front that will activate any available moisture offering clouds and isolated thundershowers over the highest terrain. Right now the fuel is limited but you will want to pack some layers and be prepared as you head out.
