Warm and sunny today.
For 5/6/09: We saw the tail end of that last system cycle clear of the area with the high winds yesterday afternoon and have entered a pocket of high pressure in the west. We can expect sunny skies dominating through the rest of the week but above normal daytime temperatures will offer some convective cloud cover building over the higher terrain with the heat of the day and strong drainage winds.
Overnight lows dropped to the freezing mark with the clear skies overnight with Crested Butte reporting 32 degrees this morning while Gunnison dropped to 31 degrees. We will rebound quickly under these clear skies with today marking the beginning of above normal temperatures that will last into the weekend. Clear nights will mean more cold overnight lows but we have been hovering right around the freezing mark and the lack of a good solid freeze should be noted for those with backcountry considerations.
A mild mostly zonal pattern will hold over our area through the end of the week with mostly sunny skies dominating. The one exception will be these clouds building into the afternoon and the classic drainage winds. These won’t be enough moisture to really fuel convective showers but stay prepared as you head out.
