No rain or snow yet but building early.
For 5/2/09: We are seeing a good concentration of moisture coming together over Colorado and the only real component missing right now are the dynamics necessary to get the snow and rain falling. Regional radar shows a steady stream building into our area out of the southwest that will feed a mix of rain and snow for most altitudes.
Temperatures are remaining warm with overnight lows holding at 32 degrees for Crested Butte and 34 degrees for Gunnison. We will see a high holding in the 40’s or low 50’s valley wide with the snow line expected to hold right around 9000ft which will mean snow on all the peaks and a mix in the valleys. Look for temperatures to drop again below freezing overnight bringing all snow for most of the valley. Accumulations will be restricted to a couple inches that will melt quickly tomorrow.
Right now we are seeing moisture pushing in from both the north and the south and this will keep the threat of rain and snow going through Sunday into the beginning of the week. Winds will be the real decider on how quickly this moves through but it looks like the bigger variables are still building. Keep an eye on low lying areas as warm temperatures combined with squally showers accelerate the melt process and drive water levels up.
