Big changes brewing.
For 4/25/09: This wave of moisture is slowly working it’s way into our area but has stalled to the west. Regional radar is showing pockets of moisture boiling around Grand Junction that will slowly work their way west along the divide. The result will be a warm system offering a mix of rain and snow with a very high snow line through this first phase.
The southern influence has been most evident with the super warm temperatures overnight with Crested Butte reporting a low of 37 degrees while Gunnison as even warmer at 39 degrees. This will have a significant effect on the snowpack and anyone with backcountry aspirations should abort based on the lack off a solid freeze. Daytime highs will continue to be ruled by the southern flow with the cold front holding off until tomorrow allowing for snow through Sunday.
As is usually the case with spring systems we have seen some changes overnight and these new components will keep us in the clearer and milder conditions longer. This will also mean a more volatile switch as this moisture enters the area so expect continued high winds and squally snow and rain shower building into the afternoon. Be prepared as you head out.
