High pressure holding early.

For 4/23/09: We are looking at another day today that will look a lot like yesterday with sunny skies to start seeing cloud cover building first over the divide and then spilling into the lower valleys. Available moisture will be limited but isolated thundershowers early in the afternoon will be possible. Like yesterday any concentration will be limited with clearer conditions returning for the evening.

Overnight lows have hardly moved this week with Crested Butte reporting 24 degrees overnight while Gunnison managed to slip to a degree cooler at 23 degrees. Daytime highs will climb quickly again to the 50’s in CB and the 60’s in Gunnison but cloud cover building in the north will make for gusting winds that will have it feeling cooler. Look for another cold night in the 20’s tonight but changes in the pattern will mean changes by Friday night.

Models are continuing to differ on the timing and trajectory of this northern wave that is setting up for the weekend and the brunt will likely hold to the north. This will keep us on the windier fringe with limited concentrated moisture but some squally snow and rain showers will be likely by Saturday. Take advantage of these next couple days but be sure to pack layers as you head out this afternoon.
