Another sunny morning but changes on the way.

For 4/22/09: The high pressure ridge that has kept us in the sunny skies through the last couple days will start to flatten as a trough dips into the area from the north. A slight infusion of moisture coupled with the continuing build up from melting snow will fuel heavier cloud cover through this afternoon with an isolated thundershower possible over the higher terrain before the day is done.

Overnight lows have continued to hold in the cooler category with Crested Butte bottoming out this morning at 23 degrees again while Gunnison dropped to 22 degrees. We will rebound quickly again with another high in the high 50’s and low 60’s expected but gusting winds and building cloud cover through the afternoon will make it feel a bit cooler.

This trough approaching from the northwest will introduce moisture to the northern part of the state with snow showers sifting through to the south into the weekend. This more active pattern will mean an increase in winds, a decrease in temperatures and the possibility of a mix of snow and rain showers. Not super confident in the snow given the mild conditions through the end of the week but this clear blue high pressure holiday we have enjoyed appears to be coming to an end.
