Out of the snow with a serious taste of spring.

For 4/19/09: The high pressure ridge that we were looking for has set up over the 4 corners area and we will see a significant rebound in the weather conditions. Look for clear and sunny conditions dominating through today and into the beginning of the week with temperatures climbing way above the seasonal norms offering a real taste of spring.

Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies overnight hitting 19 degrees in Crested Butte while Gunnison stayed warmer at 23 degrees. Daytime highs will start to climb well above what we have been seeing topping out in the high 40’s and low 50’s valley wide. This warm trend will continue into the week with highs eventually threatening the low 60’s before we see cooler temperatures again. Overnight lows will remain chilly under the clear skies but will likely bottom out in the 20’s or even low 30’s rather than the teens we have been seeing.

This week will bring the first real blast of spring and by mid week we will see those surface driven winds build up as we enter the wind season but more significantly the warm temperatures will mean some serious melting. Look for river levels to come up significantly reaching the highest points we have seen yet this spring. No flood watches or warnings have yet to be issued but keep an eye on low spots and respect the potential as the levels come up.
