Snow early.

For 4/9/09: Moisture wrapping around from the northwest is feeding snow along the divide and higher terrain but regional radar is showing more significant moisture set to move into the area. We can expect squally snow showers throughout the day with gusting winds combining with areas of heavy snow. Accumulations should be limited to an inch or two with much more likely along the divide and higher passes.

Temperatures have remained warm overnight dropping to 23 degrees in Crested Butte while Gunnison remained warmer at 25 degrees. High wind gusts offered much colder windchill values overnight and this will continue through today even with milder highs in the high 30’s expected. A switch to a more southern flow will mean much warmer temperatures into the weekend.

This snow wrapping around from the northwest will last through most of the day with Friday offering a day of transition to a more southern flow. A plume of subtropical moisture will fuel the snow through Saturday with much warmer temperatures keeping the snow line high. Expect windy conditions with snow heavy at times through today and be sure to layer up as you head out.
