Sunshine holding early but changes are coming.
For 4/8/09: The western weather pattern will remain active through the extended forecast with pacific moisture stacking in the west. The system we were expecting to develop early today has split to the north and the south with the first real moisture set to hold off until tonight. Look for thickening cloud cover throughout the day with high gusting winds blowing 40-50mph on the ridges and just a bit slower in the valleys.
Temperatures dropped again under the clear skies but held to the teens valley wide with Crested Butte reporting 13 degrees while Gunnison stayed at 15 degrees. We will rebound to the mid to high 30’s but the increasing cloud cover should keep us from breaking into the 40’s. Temperatures will get cooler through Thursday but the high winds mixing the northern and southern flows will keep things changing quickly through the end of the week.
This is another one of those classic spring time patterns with pacific moisture stacking in the west but the trajectory will keep it to our north with high winds offering wrap around moisture through the end of the week. This mix of systems and influences will mean the full mixed bag of conditions and you will want to layer up and be prepared for changes throughout the day as you head out.
