Clear and sunny high pressure.
For 4/6/09: High pressure has settled into the west with the passage of this last system and we will enjoy a couple days of sunny skies before the next round of pacific moisture sets up through Wednesday. A warmer flow out of the southwest will mean warmer temperatures to go with the clear skies with no real cloud cover building until later in the day on Tuesday.
Overnight lows last night dropped under clear skies with Crested Butte reporting -4 degrees this morning while Gunnison stayed suspiciously warmer dropping to just 9 degrees. The new temperature sensor on the automatic reporting station may not be properly calibrated because this valley inversion should have lows there even colder than at the higher elevations. Look for highs today climbing to the mid 30’s and higher for the ridgelines and higher elevations as a milder pattern sets up for this week. We can expect another cold overnight low tonight but all temperatures will climb through the middle of the week.
Our next chance at precipitation moving into the valley will come on Wednesday with a warmer round from the southwest. This will not likely be a huge snowmaker but expect a southern flow to develop that will stay active into the weekend. Layer up as you head out today and expect warming temperatures.
