Heavy snow early with more on the way.
For 4/3/09: We have seen a more concentrated shot of moisture on the front end of this round of moisture than we were expecting with 5” on the ground early. We will see a quick gap between this system and the next this afternoon but a fresh round is poised to move into the area with snow on tap through tonight and tomorrow.
Temperatures stayed mild with this first round of heavy cloud over setting up last night with Crested Butte only dropping to 24 degrees while Gunnison was even a couple degrees warmer at 27 degrees. Daytime highs will climb to the low 30’s valley wide but look for wind announcing the front of this next system with colder windchill values through this afternoon and tonight.
We will see big changes throughout the day today with the fairly calm snow early giving way to this next windier round this afternoon and a fresh wave of heavy moisture setting up overnight. There is an easy 8-12” left in this storm before we start to see skies clearing into Sunday but the winds will be the big variable so stay tuned for updates. 5” to start out today with more on the way is a certifiable powder day as the resort season comes to an end. Be sure to layer up as you head out and respect the frostbite potential as the wind starts to blow.
