Clear and cold early.

For 4/2/09: Remnants from yesterday’s storm are continuing to hang on the divide offering light snow showers but areas to the south have already cleared and the higher elevations won’t be far behind. We can expect a mix of sun and very isolated snow showers but the mostly sunny conditions will be the dominant feature.

Temperatures plummeted overnight as skies cleared with Crested Butte reporting a low of -1 degrees while Gunnison held to 0. Daytime highs will rebound slowly early but will climb to the low 30’s before the day is done. Increasing cloud cover overnight will mean more insulation against the cold temperatures but probably not enough to keep the low above the single digits valley wide.

We are into the gap between pacific systems and a fresh round will build into the area though Friday offering another shot of snow through Friday night and Saturday. A lot of pieces need to come together for this next round to be a real snowmaker but a few inches are likely through Saturday afternoon. Today is a day of transition and you will want to layer up as you head out to account for warming temperatures throughout the day but also areas of cloud cover.
