Out like a lion.
For 3/31/09: A fresh round of snow and an associated cold front are posturing to the north and will be sliding in our direction over the course of the day. Look for a mix of sun and snow showers through the day with cold temperatures made even colder by continued gusting winds.
Temperatures stayed cold overnight even with the heavy cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 7 degrees while Gunnison was a couple degrees warmer at 10 degrees. Daytime highs will top out in the low 30’s but the wind gusts as these systems shift will offer colder windchill values that you will want to be prepared for. A fresh round of pacific moisture developing tonight will also draw another cold front in from the north with temperatures continuing to hold in the low 30’s or the high 20’s for some elevations.
March is definitely going out like a lion but it looks like conditions will improve for the first few day of April. Temperatures will climb to the high 30’s with the lower valleys reaching the 40’s again but a steady stream of pacific moisture will continue to feed into the area with Thursday the only day with concentrated sunshine in the immediate forecast. Stay bundled up as you head out today and watch for frostbite with the winds.
