A windy dud.
For 3/30/09: This storm started to stray from the predicted outcome yesterday as the temperature climbed and a southern influence lifted into the area. It looks like this was enough to give the flow of moisture enough of a bump that the brunt stayed to the north and clear of our area. The result was an impressive wind storm but very little by way of accumulation in the valleys.
The cold front blew in overnight with cold overnight lows reported valley wide with Crested Butte reporting 10 degrees while Gunnison stayed a little warmer at 12 degrees. The real kicker with the temperatures is the windchill which will hover at 0 and below with these strong wind gusts continuing into the afternoon. Look for a high today in the high 20’s and low 30’s but the windchills will make it feel much colder than that.
We are looking at a classic spring weather pattern continuing to feed waves of pacific moisture into the area keeping the forecast active but uncertain through to the weekend. Expect scattered remnants of this last wave to feed snow showers along the divide until Wednesday when the next round sets up. Bundle up as you head out today and respect the frostbite potential with these high winds.
