Partly sunny and cold early.

For 3/27/09: Lingering remnants from this latest system will hold along the divide and higher terrain as moisture continues to wrap around from the northwest. Look for these snow showers to be very isolated and clearing throughout the day with partly sunny conditions dominating into tonight.

Clearing skies overnight allowed temperatures to drop quickly as the cold core of this latest system settled into the valleys. Crested Butte reported a low of 3 degrees while Gunnison stayed a little warmer at 5 degrees. Temperatures will be slow to rebound until we see some more significant pockets of sunny skies so expect our high temperatures to reach for the 30 degree mark valley wide. Overnight lows will be cold again tonight with more clear skies but sunny skies through Saturday will allow for more comfortable conditions. Colder temperatures will remain a reality through the beginning of next week with the northwestern flow holding.

The weather pattern is continuing to push volleys of pacific moisture into our area with gaps between systems giving us sunny skies only to have more snow fill in on it’s heals. Plan accordingly and take advantage of the sunshine while it’s here but definitely fill your bag with layers as you are headed out and be prepared for changes.
