Heavy snow.
For 3/26/09: The moisture associated with this latest wave settled into the area early offering snow through the day yesterday with the real meat of the storm setting up for today. We are seeing heavy snow early with regional radar showing organized moisture poised to the northwest that will keep the snow falling through today and into tonight.
The cold core associated with this system will mean significantly colder temperatures through today and tomorrow. Our overnight low stayed mild at 22 degrees in Crested Butte but the gusting winds are driving the windchills much lower. Daytime highs will not move much and we’ll be lucky to top 30 degrees. This cold will hold through tomorrow with another high in the 30’s giving way to overnight lows that will likely dip below 0 as skies clear into Saturday.
With this northern wave coming in strong and organized accumulation predictions will need to be amended with us moving from the 5-8” category to 12”+ by the time this round has cleared the area Friday night. Expect very slick travel conditions with the blowing snow and check the flingcracker.com driving report before any long trips. Bundle up if you are headed out and be prepared for very cold windchill values.
