A big spring storm building.
For 3/22/09: We are enjoying the calm before the storm this morning with sunny skies dominating early but areas of heavy cloud cover already forming over the higher terrain. Look for increasing winds through the day as this system sets up with snow expected by nightfall.
Temperatures have stayed super warm overnight thanks to the cloud cover that built up yesterday and we only hit 32 degrees this morning. Anyone with backcountry aspirations should take note of the lack of a freeze. We are rebounding quickly this morning and highs will hit the high 40’s or low 50’s again before we see this moisture and cold front settling into the area. Tonight’s lows will drop back to the 20’s and teens with snow expected to start overnight and continue into next week with temperatures hover at or below seasonal norms for most of the week.
This next wave building for today looks like it will offer up a good swing at some snow if these components continue to fall into place but warm temperatures will keep the snow line high early in the storm. Expect sloppy travel conditions through tomorrow with mixed precipitation likely in the lower valleys. Keep your fingers crossed on this one and do that snow dance.
