Some high clouds early.

For 3/18/09: A small shift in the flow of the western weather pattern has allowed the southern most end of a northern system to graze the area and is offering scattered cloud cover to the north end of the valley. We will see gusting winds pushing this through with little more than partly cloudy conditions but a scattered snow shower is also possible along the highest terrain.

Overnight lows stayed warmer than expected thanks to the insulating cloud cover with 18 degrees the valley wide low mark for the night. It will be a slower rebound with these high clouds but we can expect another warm daytime high in the 40’s. Look for this light cloud cover to hold on into tonight pushing the overnight lows even a little higher.

The increased activity in the west will close this high pressure window but will really only introduce some cloud cover for the end of the week. The forecast is getting more complicated as we head into the weekend with a pacific trough setting up to feed some moisture and cooler conditions to the area. Right now the change looks minimal with no real snow in the forecast but changes are likely and we are due. Layer up today to account for the increased clouds and don’t forget the sunscreen.
