Clouds building.
For 3/12/09: We have seen light cloud cover building into the area overnight with more of the same on tap early. We can expect this slow increase throughout the day as this next weak system settles into the area but the already weak dynamics seem to have weakened even more and the result will be snow showers through this afternoon and tonight but with little accumulation expected.
Temperatures stayed warmer overnight thanks to the insulating cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting a low of 7 degrees while Gunnison stayed a few degrees warmer at 9 degrees. A mix of sun and clouds early will slow the rebound a bit but today’s highs will still reach the mid to high 30’s again valley wide. A weak cold front from the north will graze the area overnight and this could help snow production but it will likely just mean temperatures a few degrees colder overnight and for tomorrow.
This moisture lifting into the area today is suffering from two major limitations with little organized moisture and weak dynamics. We will likely see heavy cloud cover and a collection of traces but just the right components falling into place at the right time could also render a couple inches so keep your fingers crossed. Don’t forget your sunscreen today and reapply often.
