Blowing and then some.
For 3/10/09: This storm came in about how we expected but the squally snow showers have turned into a wind storm early. We will see these strong winds through the morning but they should blow themselves out leaving us with a few hours through the evening to collect a little snow before the tail end of this wave clears the area. At least for the morning it looks like the accumulation will be best measured sideways off the sides of trees and buildings.
Overnight lows flip flopped last night with Crested Butte seeing 13 degrees while Gunnison reported 18 degrees. Temperatures will climb to the low 30’s by this afternoon but windchills will be significantly lower. If you are planning on headed outside you will need to layer up and cover all exposed skin to avoid frostbite potential. Clearing skies overnight will open the door for much colder lows around 0 valley wide with daytime temperatures rebounding to the high 30’s under sunny skies.
The winds we are seeing are making this an intense but short storm and we will start to see skies clearing overnight as we enter a gap between pacific systems. Look for mostly sunny skies tomorrow with another round of pacific moisture building for Thursday and the end of the week that will offer snow showers until skies clear again for the weekend. Expect very hazardous travel conditions and see flyingcracker.com’s road report for probable closures to our east.
