A system building from the south.

For 3/09/09: Yet another big change in the flow of the western weather pattern will introduce a plume of southern moisture through the day that will offer snow through tomorrow. This warm wet system from the south will be meeting cold from the north and these dynamics are usually good snowmakers but timing and trajectory will be the limiting factors.

Temperatures overnight were considerably warmer than yesterday thanks to the high cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 11 degrees while Gunnison held to 18 degrees. Highs will climb to the 30’s and possibly the low 40’s for the lower valleys but look for the return of these winds as these system move into place offering significantly colder windchill values.

This next round of moisture lifting into our area will offer the best potential we have seen in a while for some significant snow but it will require that the right pieces fall into place. As it stands the system is well to our south but high winds should draw that further into our area with snow starting overnight or tomorrow morning and holding into Tuesday if the winds cooperate. Layer up today and expect some chilly conditions with the winds. Think snow.
