A few inches of fresh snow and now sunny.

For 3/08/09: The fast moving system that brought us the squally snow yesterday has cleared the area and been replaced by a gap between systems that will keep us in mostly sunny skies all day. Look for some light high altitude cloud cover and gusting winds to build into the evening as another pacific wave builds into the area for Monday afternoon.

The clearing skies allowed for much colder overnight lows than we have been seeing with Crested Butte reporting 0 degrees this morning while Gunnison stayed a little warmer at 6 degrees overnight. Daytime highs will rebound to the mid to low 30’s valleys wide but this weak cold front will hold on for a crisp day with the cloud cover building again tonight. This will mean slightly warmer overnight lows but expect more temperatures in the single digits.

The snow for tomorrow will likely hold off until the afternoon but look for areas of heavy cloud cover early with the first flakes falling on the divide around 2pm. This next round will present the more complicated dynamics necessary for healthier snow production as warm from the south meets the cold from the north but look for another round of wind to limit accumulations by moving everything through quickly. Don’t be fooled by the sunshine today, it will remain a little cool and layer up to account for the increasing cloud cover and gusting winds this afternoon.
