Snow finally on us?

For 3/07/09: A stronger southwestern flow has developed for today and regional radar is showing a healthy pocket of moisture lifting into the area to the east. This current track carries it just a bit too far to our west and around the other side of the divide and we will need a small eastern bump to get the flow pointed in our direction. Just the right alteration will take us out of the collection of traces category and offer a swing at a few inches before tomorrow so do that snow dance this morning.

Temperatures have remained mild overnight with a lows of 21 degrees reported for both Crested Butte and Gunnison. We will see temperatures moving slowly into the 30’s today but not much higher as cooler air from the north sifts into the area. Skies will be clearing overnight and this will allow for colder overnight lows dropping to the teens and single digits for the lower valleys.

Today should finally offer those squally snow showers we have been waiting on with the heaviest snow currently holding over the higher terrain but expected to move a little further south for town and the resort. Expect more gusting winds through today offering colder windchill values but these will relax with a different pattern building into tomorrow. Layer up today to account for changing conditions and think snow.
