Sunny spring conditions holding on.
For 3/05/09: High winds yesterday and overnight have shuffled the western weather pattern yet again and blown the weaker systems clear of the area while widening the gap of high pressure from yesterday. The result will further delay the moisture we were expecting to form today until tomorrow with another windy but sunny day expected for today.
Temperatures stayed very warm for the higher elevations overnight with Crested butte reporting a low of just 30 degrees while Gunnison halved that dropping to 15 degrees. These warmer overnight lows should be of extra concern to anyone with backcountry aspirations because of the lack of a hard freeze on top of yesterday’s warm highs. With mostly sunny skies expected again today we can expect more super warm temperatures topping out in the mid to high 40’s. High gusting winds will keep windchill values in the 20’s so be sure to layer up as you head out.
High clouds will increase through the day with the moisture to our north and south hedging closer for a more active weather day expected through tomorrow. We are seeing a bigger snow event developing for Saturday but we’ll have see how this shakes out in the 24 hours. Layer up today but it looks lie we will enjoy more spring like conditions.
