Moisture building in the west but more sun today.
For 3/02/09: This high pressure ridge has been holding strong over the west longer than expected and diverted the entirety of the western system we were expecting for today to the north. As a result we will see more sunshine today but with real progress in the expected changes to the western pattern offering thickening cloud cover into the afternoon and potential snow showers overnight.
Overnight lows stayed right about the same as the night before with a little cloud cover insulating against very cold temperatures with Gunnison reporting 8 degrees while Crested Butte hit 13 degrees this morning. Mostly sunny skies will allow temperatures to climb quickly with highs in the mix 30’s expected again for today. Overnight lows will be a little warmer tonight with this moisture setting up and will likely hold to the high teens.
We are starting the week off with another very unorganized pattern in the west and different models are offering vastly different solutions for the later part of the week. Look for weak unorganized systems to offer some warm gray days with light snow expected through Wednesday. By Thursday and beyond we could see a more significant wave but it is a long way out. Layer up today and expect building cloud cover and gusting winds into the late afternoon.
