High pressure on the move.

For 3/01/09: We are seeing the classic mare’s tails and fish scales this morning in the high altitude cloud cover building on the front end of this weak pacific wave moving into the west. The high pressure ridge that brought us the incredible conditions through yesterday is transitioning through to the east today and we will see thickening cloud cover with mostly sunny conditions early becoming cloudy by the afternoon.

Overnight lows have stayed to the positive side of 0 thanks to the insulating cloud cover with Gunnison reporting 3 degrees while Crested Butte bottomed out at 4 degrees this morning. We will see daytime highs rebounding a little slower thanks to the thin cloud cover this morning but look for highs in the 30’s valley wide. Today won’t be as sunny as yesterday but it should feel warmer with the clouds.

This latest round of pacific activity in the west looks impressive on the satellite images but lacks the teeth of temperature dynamics or organized moisture. The result will be some warm gray days in the upcoming week with a collection of traces for accumulations. Definitely get outside today and enjoy the beautiful conditions and be sure to pack some layers to account for the increasing cloud cover.
