Incredible high pressure conditions.

For 2/28/09: The high winds yesterday cleared the remnants of the pacific moisture off to the east and ushered in a high pressure ridge that will keep us in sunny skies through the better part of the weekend. Look for blue bird conditions today to give way to some increasing cloud cover through tomorrow but conditions will be incredible for the majority of the weekend.

Temperatures have plummeted overnight as expected under the clear skies with Crested Butte reporting an overnight low of -9 degrees while Gunnison remained a little warmer at -6 degrees. We will rebound quickly to more daytime highs in the high 30’s and low 40’s but the classic inversion is threatening and could slow down and restrict temperatures in the lower valleys. This will probably be more of a threat for tomorrow as the clear skies once again allow for a cold night while increasing cloud cover will inhibit the warm up. Either way we will not see the incredibly high daytime temperatures the National Weather Service was calling for with highs topping out in the low 40’s or below.

Skies are even clearer this morning than was expected and today will be a great day to get outside. Be sure to pack a layer just in case we see some wind gusts but the real key will be sunscreen. Take advantage of these beautiful conditions and get outside.
