13" new from a bonus storm with a wet week in the forecast.
For 2/24/09: This wet system seems to have stalled over our area yesterday and the result was a little more now than was initially forecast. I called for 5-8” and the resort is reporting 13” new. We spent the entire day precariously perched on the rain/snow line with Gunnison getting rain for at least part of the day but these warm temperatures kept the snow falling.
Overnight lows hardly moved again with Gunnison dropping to 29 degrees while Crested Butte was two degree cooler at 27 degrees this morning. We will see daytime highs climbing under mixed conditions with highs topping out in the high 30’s and flirting with the 40’s for Gunnison. Tonight will likely offer colder temperatures with skies clearing but another wave is set to move into our area through Wednesday and this timing will have a big effect on the temperatures.
Expect the full mixed bag of conditions while this latest round clears the area with remnants offering snow showers on the higher terrain and fog in the lower valleys. Warm temperatures will keep the snow line right around 8000ft so travel to any of the lower valleys to our east and west will mean mixed precipitation and sloppy conditions. Check flyingcracker.com’s road report for current conditions but be sure to leave plenty of time and expect variable conditions. Even with the mild temperatures be sure to layer up as you head out today and be prepared for all conditions.
