A couple sunny days but the snow is back.
For 2/23/09: The change we saw through yesterday to a zonal pattern in the west has drawn the tail end of another warm pacific wave into our area. It will be moving across our area so we will see it moving through at it’s narrowest possible width but regional radar is showing impressive concentrations of moisture pushing in our direction and squally snow showers will offer a few inches before this clears the area.
Temperatures barely moved overnight with Crested Butte reporting 27 degrees while Gunnison dropped a bit lower to 22 degrees this morning. This warm trend will continue through the better part of the week with daytime highs climbing to the high 30’s while overnight lows stay comparably balmy in the teens while the heavy cloud cover holds. Temperatures will be the challenge to the forecast this week with a steady but weak flow of pacific moisture lacking the temperature dynamics to make it snow.
All in all this looks to be a snowy week but the unorganized nature of this flow will likely mean the same kind of conditions we saw last week with the sum total offering nice conditions but no single day offering the big powder day. Today’s snow will be the most impressive of the week with 5-8” expected by tomorrow.
