High pressure still hanging on.
For 2/21/09: We are precariously perched on the edge of this high pressure ridge slowly eroding out from under us. We can expect more clear and sunny conditions this morning but look for high altitude cloud cover sifting into the area this afternoon with gusting winds starting to develop on the front end of a bigger pattern change.
Temperatures warmed a little overnight showing that this inversion is starting to mix out but still dropped to the negative single digits with Gunnison reporting -6 degrees while Crested Butte reported -5. We will see temperatures warming quickly at the higher elevations but taking a little longer in the lower valleys and Gunnison where highs will hover around 30 while Crested Butte hits 37 degrees. Overnight lows will be about the same tonight but look for increased cloud cover building steadily through the day tomorrow as this next wave settles into the area.
The moisture associated with this next pacific volley remains unorganized and will offer snow by persistence through the week rather than in any single shot. Definitely get out and enjoy today. Carry some layers to account for the increasing cloud cover and don’t forget your sunscreen.
