Snowing and blowing early.

For 2/17/09: This storm has developed overnight with the southern moisture becoming more concentrated while the wind has blown most of the less organized moisture apart. The result will be heavy snow and squally conditions dropping the best snow we will see on us through this afternoon. We are seeing that combination of cold air from the north rubbing up against warm from the south that usually feeds the big snowmakers but the winds will limit the storm duration.

We are feeling the warm southern flow this morning with Gunnison reporting an overnight low of 12 degrees while Crested Butte stayed at 13 degrees. We are already at 23 degrees at 7am in CB with a high in the high 20’s expected valley wide. The wind chill will be significantly lower so be sure to bundle up as you head out and expect some pretty ragged travel conditions.

We will likely see in the neighborhood of 6-8” before this storm has blown clear of the area tomorrow but high winds will make it a hard measure. Not exactly how we would have liked to have seen this storm shape up but all the right components are in place so think snow and do that snow dance.
