6" new with more on the way.

For 2/10/09: This latest pacific wave that set up yesterday afternoon will continue to cycle through the area over the course of the day but the brunt of the organized moisture is probably behind us. The resort reported 6” of new snow overnight with a few more inches likely before skies clear overnight but today’s snow will be more scattered and squally.

Temperatures dropped as this last front moved in and that is what allowed for the better snow production. After highs in the 20’s yesterday valley wide the overnight lows dropped to the teens with Crested Butte bottoming out at 16 degrees while Gunnison stayed a bit warmer at 18 degrees. We will hit the 20’s again for most elevations but look for continued wind gusts to offer significantly colder windchill values. As we see skies clear into tomorrow it will mean a cold morning with daytime highs rebounding slowly but still climbing to the high 20’s.

Volleys of pacific moisture are continuing to stack in the west and the forecast will call for snow off and on into the beginning of next week. With these unorganized waves blowing through expect colder windchill values as you head out and be prepared for all conditions. Also be sure to check flyingcracker.com’s road report for the  current conditions between here and everywhere else.
