A swing and a miss but more snow on the way.

For 2/9/09: This system that we were waiting on all weekend has passed us by and cycled clear of the area leaving just a fraction of the snow that we were hoping for. Temperatures just stayed too warm for the right dynamics to wring out any snow and the result was a warm gray weekend leaving us with a collection of traces.

These warm temperatures are continuing to hold with Gunnison reporting an overnight low of just 22 degrees and Crested Butte got just a little colder at 17 degrees. Gusting winds will offer colder windchill values that you will want to be prepared for but daytime highs will top out again in the high 20’s or low 30’s. This is a little colder than this weekend and may be an indication of better dynamics for this storm building into the area this afternoon.

The second round of moisture we have been watching will move into our area today with the National Weather Service issuing a winter weather advisory through tomorrow morning. The best snow potential will come overnight and tomorrow morning but look for gusting winds and squally snow showers to continue today. Keep your fingers crossed and do that snow dance, we could use the snow but these dynamics are weak.
